I just re-read my teacher interview outfit ideas I wrote back in 2018 and it’s funny how I would give exactly the same tips then as I would now, with the exception of a few things I’ve learned over the last year. It’s been a while since I’ve shared some interview outfit ideas and having just interviewed not too long ago myself, I realized the time is now.
To be totally honest– i’ve really struggled with looking back on a lot of my posts. Within the last week I’ve finally mustered up the courage to be able to do so. Looking at old pictures is strange… it’s me and I remember how I felt in almost every picture, but I’m so different now yet still very much the same… it’s kind of trippy, ha.

New tip: google the school district you’ll be interviewing with and get a sense of the style atmosphere. Check out their facebook and instagrams… What are people wearing in their photos?

New tip: wear something lucky or an item that has meaning to you. I did this in graduate school for my teaching exams… and this interview time around, I did the same. I wore a long sleeved striped t-shirt that I wore in one of my favorite pictures with two of my students (one student from when I taught middle school and one when I taught elementary) they both chose the same day for a surprise visit so of course we snapped a photo. It’s one of my favorites ever.

New tip: do something before the interview that brings you joy– it will help set the confidence mood. Before my interview I danced around in my bedroom to Lizzo for a solid 30 minutes… no joke, it helped 🙂

New tip: make sure you eat breakfast, even if you’re nervous! It helps get the brain juices flowing.

New tip: instead of wondering if you’re good enough for the job, ask yourself: is this school and/or district a place that represents my values and is good enough for me.
I feel like interviews are always so nerve racking because we want the job, self-doubt takes over, and we wonder if they will like us or if we’re good enough. Of course we are good enough. Is the school district good enough for us? Is the school district going to support you? Treat you with respect, compassion, and dignity? Just as much as interviews are important for schools, they are equally as important for us to decide if the place is a place where we can grow and thrive as an educator. It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly to look for, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the last couple of years about school districts, it’s trust your gut. What feelings do you get when you meet the people? When you’re in the buildings? When you read their websites?
Good luck on your interview <3 you’re going to do amazing… just be you, do what’s best for you, and trust your gut. Every thing always works out exactly the way it’s meant too.
