Winter makes my skin do all sorts of strange things. Dry patches under my eyes, a constant state of chapped lips, random red cheeks, dry hair with lots of dandruff… oh the joys of the winter beauty blues!
A couple years ago, I would have described my skin as very sensitive, and it still might be, but I’ve tried over 20 different Kiehl’s products and have never had a negative skin reaction. There are definitely products that I prefer over the others, but over all, Kiehl’s is my go-to skincare line.
To be totally honest– I have not had any plastic surgery, botox, fillers, micro-peals, or even a facial, yet… although I’m not opposed, i’m just not there yet (i’m slightly scared). My skin is in 100% natural condition. I share that only because I struggle when people recommend beauty products, like anti-aging products, but they’ve been getting botox and fillers for years, again, nothing against that at all, but I do think it takes away from the authenticity of product review or use. Maybe I’m wrong in thinking that way… if I am, please share your perspective with me 🙂 I might just not know.
Anyways– the winter and summer are the two harshest times for my skin. These are my absolute favorite skincare + beauty products that help me the most during the sporadic 20 degree or rainstorm weather!
problem: chapped lips
Lips are usually the hardest thing for me to deal with in the winter. Due to the lack of moisture in the air (and lets be honest, probably lack of drinking water), my lips (and skin) are constantly dry. Over the years I’ve struggled with using chapsticks and lip balms that actually prolong my crackly experience.
THIS IS THE BEST LIP BALM/CHAPSTICK I have ever used in my entire life. I use it every morning and every night before I go to bed. It seriously cures and prevents the piercing pain of chapped lips… and ACTUALLY WORKS…instead of providing temporary relief, to some deeply cracked lips. It’s only $9.50 and lasts for about 4-5 months!
problem: dry + puffy under eyes
I have really sensitive eyes– skincare wise and seeing wise. If I stare at a screen too long, they start to water, become blurry, and I get headaches. It’s no surprise during the winter, if I am not proactive, I will get a super dry rash under my eyes. On top of that, the constant darkness makes it even harder for me to get out of bed, and my eyes are so much puffier than usual.
I ran out of midnight recovery for the fall and my eyes took a hit. I’ve been using this product for years and now really understand the positive impact it has on my under eye health. This is an eye cream that actually works and smells good too! It’s a little bit more expensive ($37), but it’s worth it. I will never be too busy to buy it again!
problem: dry skin
I have a love-hate relationship with so many different moisturizers, especially during the winter. They either dry my skin out more, feel greasy, or look greasy by the end of the day. It’s taken me 3 solid years (and some other Kiehl’s products) to find the perfect daily balance.
The ultra facial cream is an actual lightweight cream that keeps your skin fully hydrated… without looking greasy! I wear it under all my makeup and have zero face complications during the day. I just felt my face for confirmation– I haven’t moisture or washed my face yet this morning and my skin feels completely hydrated!
problem: dry + damaged hair
This is a miracle in a bottle. I first heard of olaplex from a Kardashian story like 4 years ago. When I decided I wanted to go lighter on my hair, I tried it out- fully amazed by my hair transformation.
Olaplex is a hair treatment that repairs damage hair bonds. Some salons use steps 1 and 2 during hair coloring treatments, but you can use 3 as a hair protector and rebuilder at home. I use it about once a month! When I started using it, my hair started looking SO MUCH healthier. I stopped seeing flyways, broken hairs in pictures, and it was easier to brush.
I typically color my hair two times a year: winter break + memorial day weekend. Similar to my skin, my hair is so much dryer in the winter and needs some extra TLC. Last winter was the first time I used Olaplex religiously and had the best year of hair! If you’re trying to repair your damaged hair– HANDS DOWN GIVE THIS A TRY!
I would only order it directly from the Olaplex website or nordstrom. I’ve had friends order it from amazon and it was very different than the product I had. I’ve ordered Olaplex from their official website and nordstrom and have had the same exact product!
ALSO- Olaplex just came out with a shampoo and conditioner! I just ordered it but haven’t tried it yet. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! 🙂
