How to Make Your Teacher Makeup Last All Day

I wish there were words to fully embody my journey on mastering the art of how to make my makeup last all day. I use to walk around the beauty section of Nordstrom to try different foundations and the first thing I would always say is, “I’m a teacher. I’m looking for something that will last all day but not look cakey.” Sample after sample, cake after cake, I finally found a foundation.
Then came the oiliness, the charcoal flakes from my mascara, and chalky lips from chap-stick. The struggle is real. There’s something challenging about working with children for over 7 hours a day and keeping yourself in tack. It’s hard enough to keep your head from following off. I remember having IEP meetings after school and trying to “freshen” up ten minutes before. Wet toilet paper under my eyes, dry toilet paper on my forehead– school toilet paper is awful. Awful.
You know that teacher myth about things settled down your third year of teaching? I can only speak for my face but the makeup routine has officially settled.
Some days I have meetings at 7:30, start teaching at 8:40, and when the school bell rings at 3:10, 3:30 meeting. The only thing I have to do before my afternoon meeting is to fish out any reminisce of candy from my teeth… My students are the first to tell me when my lesson is boring or I’m the worst teacher EVER. Why they can’t tell me I have chocolate in between my two front teeth makes no sense to me?
A little bit about my skin: I have combination skin (oily sometimes, dry sometimes) that can be really sensitive. During the winter I notice a lot of sensitivity to different face masks and even lotions. I have occasional little bumps and sometimes a zit or two.
I wanted to share my all day makeup routine for those of you who don’t want to visibly wear the challenges of teaching— or touch up throughout or after the workday.
Step 1. BarePRO™ Performance Wear Liquid Foundation
This is honestly the best foundation I have ever used. I’ve tried almost every MAC, Nars, Laura Mercier, Clinique, Lancome, and IT cosmetics and this is the best. It has a natural matte, SPF, and full coverage… but breathable and feels AND looks like you’re barely wearing any makeup.
I use bareminerals LUXE performance brush and it creates the same foundation finish as your fingers. I highly recommend this brush! It’s so soft!
Step 2. Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer
I usually put bronzer below my cheeks and along my hair line! Too Faced has the best bronzers!
I use It Cosmetics Bronzer brush to help me appear slightly tanner than I actually am…
Step 3. Nars Blush
A little bit of blush on my cheeks helps create the illusion that I’m always shimmery and happy! I’ve been using NARS blush for years and have never found a brand that I love more.
I use Sephora’s PRO angled Blush Brush for my application.
Step 4. LANCÔME XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base
I had always seen mascara base commercials during my ABC Thursday nights but it wasn’t until teaching elementary school that I tried it and understood the benefits. It keeps your mascara on ALL DAY. It prevents flakiness, raccoon eyes, and holds up against tears. THIS STUFF IS AMAZING.
Step 5. LANCÔME DRAMA Instant Full Body Volume Mascara
I’ve had a lot of people ask if I have fake eye lashes. The answer is no, it’s lancome! Lancome has the worlds best mascara. It’s kind of pricey, but well worth every penny. Combining both the full body mascara and the mascara base, is a total eyelash dream.
Step 6. It Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil
I received a sample of this in my ipsy glam bag a couple years ago and it was love at first sight. Prior to trying this I had never put anything in my eyebrows. I still don’t color them in much– just enough to fill in the gaps. My eyebrows always look 100% natural!
Step 7. De-Slick Oil Control
This product has been life changing. After you’re finished with your make-up, you just spray a little bit on and BOOM. It seriously holds your makeup in place all day AND prevents any sign of oiliness. I use to use a primer but after hearing about this product, I only need to use this. You can wear this over any type of makeup or any amount. If I had to be stuck with one beauty product for the rest of my life it would be this, 100%!
I feel lucky to have a makeup routine that only takes me 10 minutes each morning and last throughout the entire day. I’m all about looking natural and keeping makeup light and breathy.
What are your favorite makeup products? Have you tried any of these? Any makeup secrets? Can’t wait to hear from you!
