Top: Old Navy (x-small) | Jeans: J.Crew Factory (24) | Shoes: Old Navy (7.5) | Earrings: J.Crew Factory
It’s that time of year where I’m running on coffee, loads of dry shampoo, Old Navy sales, and fast pace walking down the hallways. I’ve had quite a few people tell me how fast of a walker I am. In the midst of a potential 100 yard dash from my classroom to the color printer, I realized it was true. Too much to do, too little time! The fast walking in heels shall continue!
Before I rave about how much I love this Old Navy top (it’s the best blouse i’ve purchased this fall), I recently discovered a strange strategy to stop my brain from entering a downward spiral into the deep seas of overthinking.
When I notice my brain getting fixated on a variety of things (trying to put puzzle pieces together that don’t fit, trying to understand someone else’s motives, trying to figure out what to do, who to say something too, when to schedule an IEP meeting…), I have a strange codeword to interrupt my thinking pattern and bring me back to center.
This might sound weird, but I wrote a letter to my brain explaining that when I say the word “gerbil” in my head, it needs to stop overthinking and chill. It sounds bizarre, trust me, I know, but it’s working. I read about it in a building emotional resiliency for educators book. It’s the most effective self-control strategy I’ve ever tried and continued to use. Ha… I guess I should probably explain the back story on gerbil… that’s for another time. This strategy is from a book by Elena Aguilar called Onward: cultivating emotional resilience in educators. Check it out –> click here!
THIS TOP THOUGH! I shoved it in my bag and it DIDN’T GET WRINKLY! It’s $25 from Old Navy, comes in two other colors, and the v-neck lays perfectly to avoid any unwanted guest appearances.
I love the satin feel, all-around cut, and flowy feel. You can wear it tucked or untucked, with jeans or slacks, dressed up or dressed down… it’s seriously perfect.
I’m mustard obsessed + might be buying this shirt in the maroon jive color. What is your favorite color to wear this season? I’m definitely a fan of all things jewel toned! Can’t wait to hear from you!
