ribbed glass candle | autumn harvest candle | orange candle
Crafting and art projects has become quite the therapy within the last few weeks. I’ve needed to find a healthy distraction for my mind and finally making the time to decorate my home has been forced onto my agenda. However, once things get back to normal, I’m going to be mindful of the positive impact of crafting on my health and incorporate crafting into my self-care routine 🙂
I love fall decor but every season I struggle with buying decor just for pictures and what not. I would like to think I’m a pretty functional human being, even though my husband would probably disagree…ha, which makes buying decorations for the house hard. That and decorating a house is a challenge for me in general. This may be another alien quality, but I can commit to something I have to make way easier than something I can buy.
Spending so much time at home has made me realize a few things: fresh flowers actually make me feel happy, the dogs bones and toys are every where, and eating outside shouldn’t be a burden… AKA crafts with a purpose = THE BEST!
a farmhouse vase
I found this white metal vase at Michaels last year… and i’ve been meaning to personalize it for months! I’m so happy I finally got around to it. I used my cricut machine to design the decal but if you don’t have a cricut, there are so many cute stencils in craft stores and on-line! You’ll just need to add a paintbrush and outdoor paint 🙂 Amazon and hobby lobby have a large selection of farmhouse vases ranging from $5.99-$19.99 and they are SO CUTE (among other farmhouse metal white accessories)!
a wooden tray
My husband worked so hard on our outdoor deck this summer and we’ve been eating dinner outside any chance we can get! However… the process of bringing things outside and back in with dogs is quite the joy… I hope the sun comes out for a few more outdoor dinners before all the rain kicks in. This lovely tray will be getting most of its use during the summer, but for the fall will be a darling piece of decor or place to display candles!
I found this tray for $7.99 at Ross a couple weeks back! There are a ton of great options on amazon and hobby lobby! I would recommend checking out stores like Ross, Homegoods, Marhalls, etc. because you can get great quality trays for a fraction of the cost! Again, I used my cricut machine to create the decal and photoshop to design it! I’ve been really upping my photoshop skills lately 🙂 It’s hard to see, but I was able to nail Buckley’s little beard in the decal creation, ha!
pup bone/toy box
Speaking of Buckley… the little guy LOVES bones. Our downstairs living room (which I call the farm because of their crates and the dog nastyness) is filled with hidden bones. I had to come up with a solution that was cute and functional. We use to have a cloth square box and B-nasty loved to rip it apart and create another mess for us to clean up… hunting dogs 🙂
This entire box was created for under $20 with supplies I found at Michael’s! I purchased an unstained wood palette box, two b’s, the “&” sign, white paint, wood glue, and stain! My girlfriend and I made these boxes (hers a toy, mine a bone) for our dogs. She wrote her dogs name on it and it turned out so cute! Make sure you use your teacher discount and 40% off coupon for the stain/wood glue! 🙂 There are so many different colors and options!
If you’re interested in a DIY tutorial for any of the projects above, leave it in the comments and I’ll work on putting one together 🙂 for now, enjoy these ideas + let your creative mind flow!
