This week I was a contained behavior teacher, reading interventionist, second grade, and fourth grade teacher… Wowzers. Talk about getting a good mix of different roles in the teaching profession š Being a person that loves predictability and structure, I had a lot of hesitations about guest teaching as my first role back into the classroom after being on medical leave. I honestly wish all teachers could have some sort of experience being a guest teacher. I’m learning so much every single day and really understanding the differences and similarities between educator roles.
Being a guest teacher is really complex and I never had thought about that before. You literally walk into some one else’s classroom, read their plans (that may or may not make sense because all of our brains are different), are expected to educate a group of children that don’t know you, and teach different subjects you may or may not have experience teaching… while trying to create a safe and consistent learning environment for the students while their teacher is away… I don’t know if very many guest teachers/substitute teachers read my blog but if you read this… YOU ARE AMAZINNNNNNG! It is a different type of hard teaching work, that is for sure… and I doing the job has shifted the way I’m going to prepare for guest teachers in the future… and added a whole new level of admiration and appreciation for you! Here is a guest teacher review form i’ve created to provide the teacher with information about how the day went. Use or lose!
With that being said… I am already beyond the moon excited about having my own classroom, again, next year. It’s been a hard adjustment to the realization that the universe can remove people and experiences that you never dreamt of losing… but when that happens, replacing them with people and experiences you never dreamed of having… and I am dreaming soooo tough about having my own classroom next year <3 The best things in life are definitely worth the wait.
hope you all had a wonderful week!
