t-shirt: Go Shout Love (size x-small)
“I think a lot of parents, in our position, that’s all they want, is inclusion and love to be shown. If people do that on a daily basis, no matter what they’re doing, the world would be a better place.” -Florence’s father
I don’t know if I’ve ever connected to a shirt as much as I have this one. It represents so much of the beliefs I hold within myself and the beliefs I try to communicate and teach to my students.
I’ve partnered with Go Shout Love, a social enterprise where 50% of all proceeds support the medical costs and all the other expenses of having a child with a significant disability.
This month our world is lucky enough to meet sweet Florence— a beautiful, strong, and resilient big sister who has Ohtahara Syndrome.
I’m a special education teacher who works primarily with students who have invisible disabilities– emotional behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, and other health impairments. My school doesn’t serve students who have disabilities similar to Florence… and when I showed my students this video, they didn’t even know what to say or how to respond.
The message of inclusion is an important one. My last post I shared how we include all within the building of my school… but this video is such an important reminder that we can do better. We can and need to serve all the students in our community… not just the ones that attend of our school.
Click here to watch Florence’s beautiful story and browse all the adorable t-shirts, like the one I’m wearing, to help support Florence and her journey towards inclusion.
Here’s to having an amazing and inclusive Thursday!
