round up: what i wore teaching

In the midst of an incredibly challenging year, I have finally made time to put together a spring outfit round up of what I wore teaching! Looking back at pictures served as a great reflective tool this evening.

While putting this together, my first realization was I had cried my eyes out during my entire 30 minute lunch but at 4:00 when I went to take my outfit picture, you can barley tell. This last month has been hard. After every thing I’ve been through, I’m very aware of how certain situations impact my health and the emotion attached to the root of what feeling I’m feeling.

I think a huge misconception people have about PTSD is that all feelings, emotions, and responses must be tied to the previous trauma or to the event that caused the PTSD. Having a disability is one part of my identify– it’s only one part of us. It is not who we are. It’s something that can be captured in a word or a label. It’s a snap shot preview word– just like my outfit pictures or any of the pictures we choose to share. It’s never the whole story.

Bias’ are real and the scope of people being impacted is much broader than just racial and gender.

The second thing I realized is my classroom gets destroyed so frequently that my layout is constantly changing, ha. I think we might finally have a system. The last few weeks are the longest the layout has lasted. Please keep your fingers crossed for me 🙂
